「It doesn’t matter」「I’ll do it!」「Where do we put it?」

[Monthly Reports ②]

The second section of our monthly reports highlights the English that students actually use throughout the month—language that comes directly from them, without simply repeating after the teacher.

Arguably, this is the most important part of our reports. After all, the goal of studying any language is to be able to use it. At Oshiro Kids, using English as a real means of communication is our top priority. This section allows parents to clearly see how their children are progressing in that regard. Based on my experience, Oshiro Kids may be the only English school in Japan that documents students’ spontaneous language use in this way.

I encourage parents to look closely at this section and consider it carefully. Pay attention to the kinds of English expressions that are emerging. Much of this language is natural and commonly used in real-life English-speaking environments, yet it rarely appears in school textbooks. Phrases such as “It doesn’t matter,” “I’ll do it!” and “Where do we put it?” are being used naturally by students every week.

It is also worth noting the number of questions students are asking. In many cases, the grammatical complexity required to form questions in English is not typically mastered until junior high school. However, our students are already demonstrating both the willingness and the ability to ask questions when the situation calls for it.

From an educator’s perspective, the ability to use English is the ultimate goal of English education. That is why this second section of our monthly reports is so important.
