僕は30年英語教育に関わってきて、今でも思うことがあります。

それは、英語を「教科として勉強」して欲しくないということです。

しっかり理解しないといけない、正解しないといけない、きちんと覚えて間違ってはいけない、そう思いながら英語に向き合ってほしくないのです。

単語、表現を覚えることが目的ではありません。何のため、誰に言葉を使うのか。

人と繋がる、分かり合う、助け合う過程を大事にしたい。教室でそのような場面をたくさん作っています。

言葉の先に「人」がいる。僕は「人」を感じる英語教育をこれからも続けます。

Having been involved in English education for 30 years, there’s something I still strongly feel to this day.

I don’t want people to study English just as “a school subject.”

I don’t want them to face English with the belief that they must understand everything perfectly, always get the right answer, memorize everything flawlessly, and never make a mistake.

Memorizing words and expressions is not the goal.

For what purpose, and for whom, are we using language?

I want to cherish the process of connecting with people, understanding one another, and helping each other. That’s why I create as many such real moments as possible in the classroom.

At the end of every word, there is a “person.”

I will continue, from now on as well, to practice an English education where students can truly feel the human being on the other side of the language.
