今回は、おおしろキッズのスペシャルアドバイザーである、ひろみ先生をご紹介します。

ひろみ先生は、よく「英語の先生」だと思われます。しかし実際には、英語を教える先生たちを指導し、育成することを専門にしている教育者です。

全国で子ども英語教育に携わる多くの先生たちが、ひろみ先生から学んでいます。

ひろみ先生は、「これからの時代に必要な英語教育とは何か」を長年考え続けてきました。そして、英語を単なる教科として学ぶのではなく、人とつながる力や考える力、伝える力を育てることを大切にしています。

これまで26年以上にわたり子ども英語教育に携わり、教育委員会との連携による教員研修や、小学校での授業参観・指導なども数多く行ってきました。これまでに訪問した小学校は320校を超えます。

現在も全国の先生方が、おおしろキッズ英語教室やオンラインでひろみ先生から学んでいます。

僕自身、長年一緒に教育に携わる中で、ひろみ先生の知識や経験はもちろんですが、何より「子どもたちの未来を真剣に考える姿勢」に大きな信頼を寄せています。

This post is about Hiromi-sensei.

Hiromi-sensei is often mistaken for an English teacher. To clarify, Hiromi-sensei is actually not an English teacher. She teaches, trains, develops and inspires those who are! Her students are a very large number of English teachers from all over Japan.

Hiromi-sensei doesn’t work with just any teacher. She works with teachers who are seriously trying to make a difference for the next generation because, according to Hiromi-sensei—and I firmly agree—the next generation genuinely needs a different kind of English education. For too long, English education in Japan has used much of students’ valuable time in a painful, test-driven process that has produced relatively few confident users of the language.

Hiromi-sensei’s 27-year career in English education includes working with teachers in public elementary schools as a contracted member of seven Boards of Education, as well as visiting more than 320 elementary schools to observe lessons, train teachers and offer advice.

Hiromi-sensei’s training resonates so powerfully with teachers that they regularly travel from all corners of the country—sometimes even navigating their way around typhoons—to visit Oshiro Kids on Sundays, speak with her and learn from her educational insight and experience. For teachers unable to make the trip, dozens at a time gather online to learn from her.

It is no exaggeration to describe Hiromi-sensei as one of Japan’s most highly respected educators in the field of English education today.
