放課後には子ども向けのアクティビティがたくさんあります。スイミング、空手、ピアノ、サッカー、バレエなどを多種多様で選択肢はたくさんあります。

多くの親は「英語」を習い事の1つと捉えているかもしれませんが、僕は少し違った見方をしています。

スイミングスクールに通う子どもたちすべてが、プールで働く職業を目指しているわけではないでしょうし、ピアノ教室に通う子供たちのすべてが、音楽の道を志しているわけではない。サッカースクールに通う子どもの大半は、将来サッカー選手として生きることはないかもしれない。

 一方、英語という外国語のコミュニケーションツールを使いこなす能力と姿勢は、英語がそのものが好きか嫌いかに関わらず、おそらく将来どの仕事をするのにも必要なものになるだろうと考えています。僕は、英語のテストに合格するという一過性の目標のため、あるいは英語に詳しい学者を育てるような教育はしていません。毎週のレッスンでは、有意義な英語でのコミュニケーションのスキルやストラテジーを育てることに費やしています。そういう意味で、英語は一生ものであり、英語教室に通い続けることは、将来への投資であると思います。たくさん習い事があるなかで、おおしろキッズ英語教室に価値を感じ、子どもたちを通わせてくださる保護者さまには本当に感謝しています！

After-school Activities 

There are many after-school activities for kids. Kids can enroll in schools to learn swimming, Karate, piano, soccer, ballet etc. The choices and options for children are varied and many! 

 I think however it’s unwise for parents to consider "English" as an after-school activity in the same way. Not all kids who attend swimming school are heading for a career in the pool. Not all kids who attend piano lessons have a career in music in mind. The vast majority of kids attending soccer schools will end up watching J-League games rather than playing for a big club. 

 On the other hand, the ability and the attitude required to use the tool of English for communication will at times very probably become a necessity for all people in the future. Our children should experience and develop these abilities now. Spending a little time each week working on the skill of meaningful communication, and feeling success with it, is a major lifetime and lifelong investment.  Parents sometimes tend to forget this when they make decisions regarding their children's after-school activities. After-school activities can have a lifelong impact!
